Accessibility at St Mary's Church
At St Mary's Church, we are committed to ensuring that everyone can participate fully in our worship and community life. We strive to make our church as accessible as possible and are always looking for ways to improve. Below, you will find details on the provisions we have in place to support those with additional needs.
Our Accessibility Features
- Wheelchair Access: Our church is fully wheelchair accessible, with ramps and flexible seating arrangements to accommodate wheelchair users and those with additional needs.
- Chair options: Within the church we have wooden chairs, some have arms and some don’t. Please ask if you need a particular type. We also have some softer seating in some areas of the church.
- Hearing Loop System: A hearing loop system is available in both the main church and the church hall. We also have a portable loop that can be used for meetings.
- Large Print Materials: Hymns and service sheets are displayed on screens and also available in large print. Please ask if there are any materials that you need in large print and we would be happy to provide.
- Quiet Space: We have a quiet space in the tower room for those who may need a calmer environment during services.
- Sermon Availability: Sermons are recorded and available on YouTube for those who are unable to attend.
- WC: An accessible toilet is available and includes a grab rail. However, the space is currently limited. We are aware of this, and improvements are planned as part of the second part of our Building Transformation Project (BTP 2.0) which will hopefully happen in 2026.
What to Expect When You ViSIT FOR A sERVICE

Arrival
Welcomers are available at the entrance to offer assistance if required. Please let them know if you need any support. The church is on one level, with a path up to the front, and a wide door, with a push to open button for the inside door. During the Service Seating is flexible, with chairs that can be moved. A hearing loop system is in place for those who need it. Large-print materials are available upon request, and hymn lyrics are displayed on the screen. During communion stewards direct people to the front of the church to receive. If you would like to take communion in your seat, please let the steward know.

WC is down the corridor opposite the church entrance.
A quiet space is at the back of the church under the tower. There is a screen in there so you can still follow the service.
After the Service
Volunteers are on hand to assist with exiting the building if needed.
Everyone is warmly invited to stay for refreshments.
