Lent and Holy Week

Lent
Lent is a special season in the church year when we prepare for Easter. The Gospel of John tell us about Jesus, the Light of the World and how the darkness cannot overcome that light. Lent is the journey from the wilderness, from darkness, into the light of Easter where we remember Jesus death and celebrate Jesus' risen life.

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. Throughout Lent, services and prayer meetings will be held across the Ely Team as part of our Lent Pilgrimage.

We will also be running a Lent course 'Who is God?' exploring God's character through the Easter story.

For a different approach to Lent why not join in with Active for Lent, kickstarting the week with a fun fitness session while reflecting on how healthy habits and positive mindset impact the rest of our weeks. See details below.

In 2017 Ely Team ran a Lent Course, 'Reading Scripture'. If you missed this, or would like a refresh, you can watch the sessions and find the course resources here.

Holy Week
Holy Week is the week leading up to Easter Sunday when we follow the days of the Easter Story from the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, through Jesus' teaching in the Temple, to the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday, Jesus' crucifixion, death and burial on Good Friday and his glorious Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Through the Ely Team Pilgrimage, we wanted to create moments where we can gather together from across the Ely Team to pray together. It’s an opportunity to focus ourselves, to draw near to God, to align our hearts and minds once more and be receptive to God's love through his gift of Jesus.

If you are unable to make these times - please do not worry!
Maybe you could find another suitable time to set aside for prayer, alone or with others.
When you pray perhaps you could light a candle in these moments, in recognition of God with you and in partaking of our prayer pilgrimage. A reminder of Jesus, Light of the world.
