17th September - I am the Light of the World.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:1-5 NIV “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 NIV “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:5-9 NIV |
Jesus is the light. He shines light in our darkness. In the world that is full of sin, hopelessness, despair, death.. Jesus brings hope, direction/purpose, freedom, life. Let us follow Jesus and allow Him to bring His light into whatever we are facing.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

The crowd was looking for Jesus because they had seen Jesus perform miracles. They saw Him feed the 5000. Their focus was on the here and now and on what Jesus can do/provide here on earth that is temporary and not on eternity. Jesus is not only able to give them physical bread to meet their need and sustain them on earth but is able to give them bread that can eternally satisfy their need. Jesus is the bread of life. Whoever comes to Jesus will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Him will never be thirsty. Whoever believes in Jesus will not perish but have eternal life. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NIV |
Let us receive Jesus, the living bread that came down from heaven… trusting and believing in Jesus in our everyday... loving Him, learning from Him, living by faith.
